A Fair Tax For All

A sales tax is the most democratic form of a tax. Unlike a property tax that only impacts property owners, and an income tax that unfairly impacts workers, a retail sales tax impacts everyone and anyone that purchases certain types of goods anywhere in Kane County.

The state recently eliminated the grocery tax, so even this modest increase of .75% is still less than what the grocery tax was, and it’s not on items that need to be purchased every week as a matter of survival.

Think of the Chicago Outlet Mall in Aurora, one of the biggest malls in the country, and it attracts consumers from multiple counties outside of Kane. This means that Kane County residents do not feel the full impact of this tax. The point is to find a way to fund county public safety adequately without putting too much pressure on any of its residents.
